This cycle we've been focussing on time and marginal gains: how every single moment matters as an opportunity to learn. Big transformations come from small, consistent habits. Little things like getting to lessons quickly, bringing equipment daily, paying attention to every explanation will help our pupils be successful because it expands the time they can spend learning which ultimately helps them to achieve that life of choice and opportunity.
Imagine if we spent five minutes a day working on something? Over the course of a school year, that equates to more than two days in total. Although five minutes doesn't sound like much, if you add it all together that two days learning could make a big difference. So what will you spend your five minutes on?
Due to overwhelming interest, our sister school Reach Academy Hanworth Park is holding two more Open Events. These are for pupils who will start Year 7 in 2026. The events are on 7th and 8th October at 10am until 11am. Please tell your friends and families with Year 6 children in other schools, so that we can share with them all the fantastic things they do at RAHP.
Please can you urge people to book here or by clicking on the flier below, as we have had overwhelming interest and need to know numbers.
Early Years - Key Stage 2
To our certificate winners for showing the Reach values of Endeavour and Aspire. Well done everyone!

We are so proud of how well our nursery children are settling in.
They are being so brave, saying goodbye to their parents without any tears! Mums, dads and carers you're doing a great job with your strong, swift goodbyes. You're helping your little ones build trust and develop emotional resilience.
We are learning to be independent by hanging up our coats on our pegs, lining up and finding our names to place on the 'Who is in Nursery today?' board for self-registration. We are learning to line up one behind the other and wait patiently for our turn to walk into nursery.

This week, we’ve been exploring a new area in our provision: the water tray! We’re learning to pull up our sleeves, put on aprons and enjoy pouring, filling, splashing and getting just a little bit wet! Exploring water and containers helps children understand cause and effect, volume, and measurement, laying the groundwork for future learning in maths and science.

We’re delighted to share that the children in Reception have settled beautifully into their new classes. They have been consistently demonstrating our values: Reflect, Endeavour, Aspire, Show Courage, and Have Fun. It’s been a joy to watch them embrace their new routines with such enthusiasm and positivity.
We have been diving into the traditional tale 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. As a whole, the children can now retell the story confidently from beginning to end.
It’s been especially impressive to hear them using different tones of voice to represent the different characters, they’ve really brought the story to life!

During our Maths lessons, we've been exploring important early maths concepts like matching objects, making equal pairs and comparing quantities to understand more and less. We’ve also started looking at different types of measurements.
We've been learning about families: who is in our family and what makes each family special and unique. This would be a wonderful topic to continue at home. You might like to talk with your child about what is special about your own family, such as your heritage, traditions, or values that are important to you.
We are incredibly proud of how confidently the children have begun their Reception journey, and we’re excited to be working alongside you this year to support your child in building the foundations for a life full of choice and opportunity.

This week the children thoroughly enjoyed a lively drama workshop where they explored acting and built confidence through imaginative play.
We have been learning about the composition of numbers up to 10 using rekenreks. The children were able to visualise number bonds and practice finding them all within 10. I wonder how many your child can remember?
We are continuing to write about 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea'. Children are applying knowledge of capital letters and full stops to punctuate their sentences, and are retelling using their story maps.
Can you use the story map below to retell the story at home?

Our Science lessons have focused on the weather. The children learned about different weather types and even had a go at making their own predictions: they are future meteorologists in the making!
Thank you for your continued support with helping your child to read for 10 mins every night. We look forward to another exciting week ahead.
We have had such a busy and exciting start to Year 2! The children are working hard, showing courage when trying new things and real endeavour in every lesson.

In Book Club, we have started reading 'Into the Forest' by Anthony Browne.
This book is full of mystery and magic: a boy sets off through a dark forest to deliver a cake to his grandmother, and along the way he meets characters from well-known fairy tales.
It’s a story that makes us think carefully about family, fears and the importance of kindness.
You can help at home by asking your child questions such as:

We are now planning our independent writing on pirates! Children will be writing about:

As a year group we are working on our speed as writers.
At home, please encourage your child to practise writing 2–3 sentences each day to build speed and accuracy. Make it exciting! How quickly can they write the sentence while still maintaining legible handwriting? Try using this sentence, which contains all the letters of the alphabet:
“The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.”
We are exploring the properties of solids, liquids and gases. Right now, we are focusing on solids. Even though solids keep their shape, we have been testing how some can be changed by squeezing, bending, twisting, squashing and stretching.
At home, you could experiment together with everyday objects like sponges, rubber bands, playdough, or plastic bottles. What happens when you change their shape?

Daily reading at home is so important. Reading every day builds fluency, which is essential not only in English but across all subjects. Please share what you read with your child too, whether it’s a recipe, a road sign, an email, or instructions, so they can see how useful reading is in everyday life. In writing, fluency helps us read back and improve our own work.
Each Friday your child will take home three books: two of them should be read by them to you and one is a parent reader. Please ensure that you write a comment in their reading record every day and send it back into school.
We have continued working on numbers within 100. This week we have used a place value chart to compare numbers. We learned that we can compare numbers by looking at the tens column and then the ones column. We have used the phrases “greater than”, “less than” and “is equal to” and learned the symbols that represent that: <, >, =

We are exploring the oceans and the seas of the world in Geography. This week we explored different types of maps including world maps, country maps, park maps, building maps and road maps.
We consolidated our knowledge of the continents and learned about the oceans and seas that surround them! Over the weekend, take a look at some maps that you may use in everyday life.
This week we learned about passwords and how we can make sure our password keeps our unique information safe. Ask your child what makes a super safe password!
In Team Reach, we talked about the special people in our life and what makes them special to us. The key words we used were commitment, care, quality time and love.
We are so proud of Pine and Cherry Class for their enthusiasm and hard work. Thank you for your continued support at home. Together we are making great strides in Year 2!
Wow! How quickly the first four weeks of school have gone! There have been a lot of changes moving from Phase 1 but everyone is settling in well and we are so proud of how everyone has shown the value of endeavour over the last few weeks.
Moving into Phase 2 means children can now use google classroom to stay up to date with work and to ask any questions that they have about their learning.
To log in you will need their google classroom logins which can be found glued into their reading records.
As it is a professional space, unfortunately it cannot be used to talk to other teammates or to write comments unassociated with classwork.
We cannot wait to post some exciting information on our classroom!
We have loved seeing all of the children’s reading records with their newly learnt words and definitions over the last few weeks.
We will slowly now start introducing new homework over the next few weeks. The first of these is Times Table Rock Stars, which children will be used to from Year 2. Once login’s have been given out children should be completing 10 minutes every night at home.
Once everyone is settled with Times Table Rock Stars we will then also introduce another homework platform called Century but more details will be sent out about this soon.
This term we are reading the book ‘Ice Palace’ by Robert Swindells.
The story follows Ivan on a long and treacherous journey to find his brother after he was taken in the middle of the night by a mystical being known as Starjik. We have had a great time reading this book and cannot wait to see what happens next.
To support reading lessons, it is vital that your child is reading for 10 minutes at home everyday. Please ensure they are writing a new definition or about the story in their reading log afterwards.

We are continuing to work hard on our unit around place value. Over the next week we will be moving onto being able to compare and order numbers up to 1000 and being able to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.
It is great for children to keep practising these skills at home. You can challenge them by giving them a two or three-digit number and getting them to tell you how many hundreds, tens and ones are in each number.

We are continuing our lessons on ‘The Magic Paintbrush’ by Julia Donaldson. We have been focusing on using expanded noun phrases and also learning how to use direct speech in our writing.
Please ask the children to tell you all about the exciting story of the magic paintbrush
We have had a wonderful start to our music lessons this term. Our focus is on Gospel music and we are learning the song ‘Lean on Me’ by Bill Withers.
Click here for the link to the song we are learning, including the lyrics and have a listen! Children can also practice at home ready for their next lesson!
Year 4 have been persistently working hard on learning how to exchange and regroup with numbers going into four digit numbers. The children have been working very hard and taking lots of pride in their books.
Here is an example of the method we are focusing on this week, called column subtraction. Test your child at home!

We are focusing on our linework and shading. We are using different types of lines to create artworks.
The children have such artistic talent and we can't wait to see their final art piece!

We have started our independent writing for this unit. It has been so exciting seeing Year 4 using amazing grammar techniques in their pieces. They have reimagined our storybook - 'Journey'.

We have been exploring the journey of a raindrop in the water cycle. We have also explored how rain forms on mountains, including understanding why mountains may have lush green forests on one side, but barren deserts on the other.
Shoutout to Fabian for explaining the water cycle so articulately in humanities this week!
Alex and Jason are very excited to see all the parents and carers at our Getting To Know You Event, at 2.30pm on Monday 29th September.
Please click here to let us know you can make it!
The highlight of this week for Year 5 is that we had our first school trip. On Wednesday, we went to see the Lion King in London!
We loved the performance, singing, dancing and excitement of being in a big theatre. We were absolute ambassadors for our school and lots of members of the public commented on how well behaved we were.
See our pictures below!

It’s been a brilliant two weeks for our incredible students! They have continued to show an exemplary attitude towards their learning. They should be very proud of how well they have settled into life in Phase 3.
We want to congratulate our recent merit and value certificate winners!

Thank you so much for attending our recent parent event. We hope you found it useful!
We have continued reading ‘Letters From the Lighthouse’ by Emma Carroll. We have followed the protagonist, Olive, and her brother Cliff, as they were evacuated from London during the Blitz to the coastal town of Budmouth Point.

We have worked incredibly hard on place value to ensure that we can compare and order 7-digit numbers.
We learnt how nearly two million children were evacuated from their homes at the start of the Second World War. This was called ‘Operation Pied Piper’. This meant they had to leave their homes in the UK’s largest cities and move to the countryside to escape the bombing.
Thousands of children were even sent overseas to North America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. This topic links to our Book Club text.
We had an exciting lesson where we did a variety of activities to work out a baseline of our fitness. We will be using this to set a target for the rest of the term that we will endeavour to achieve!
Tuesdays - Esk
Thursdays - Medway
On these days, children should come into school wearing their PE kit. They do not need to bring their normal uniform in as they will not be required to get changed after their PE lesson. Please ensure that your child is not wearing any jewellery.
We have provided all children with a homework book. We will be setting homework on Google Classroom every weekday (Monday to Friday). It will consist of Maths, SPAG (spelling and grammar) and reading questions. It should take about 20-25 minutes each day. This should be completed in addition to the usual daily reading.
If your child is unable to access the work, or is having difficulty completing it, then please do let us know as soon as possible so that we can provide the necessary support.
If you would like your child to go home by themselves, please make sure you complete this form. Here is the letter shared earlier this detailing further information.
Year 6 have been working on their pencil skills to record prickly textures. They showed skill in drawing accurate ellipses as well as scumbling and shading to produce these fantastic cactus drawings.

It was wonderful to meet so many Year 9 families at the GTKY evening. Thanks to everyone that came and especially to those who bought food to share. Thank you also for your support in making sure Year 9s are coming to school ready to learn and with the right school bag: a final reminder that this should be the Reach bag only.
A highlight for me this week was watching 9 Don enjoy their first science practical, using the microscopes to look at cells.
In both assembly and form time this week we have started our Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award. This term we are completing our skill and physical components: this means all year 9 pupils must do:
This needs to be signed off by an assessor, this can be anyone not related to them and over the age of 18. For ideas on what pupils can do check out the DofE website: https://www.dofe.org/
As mentioned at the GTKY evening, we are working towards more independence this year, please support your child to do this by checking their homework with them on Google Classroom and making sure both their planner and payslip are signed every weekend.
Finally, please see below some incredible shout outs demonstrating Year 9’s endeavour in over the last two weeks - let’s keep it going!
Sophie: SO to Don who had a great lesson today! Specific SO to Waqas and Klaudia whose work was of such a high standard it was shown as a perfect example on the visualiser.
Eve: SO to Tyne. I just had the most amazing RS lesson with them. So much focus and fun for a Friday! #havefun
Savarnah: SO to Preston, Max and Suvan in English this afternoon. We had lots of fun learning about repetition in poetry!
Kit: SO to excellent work from Amir, Dylan, Tanya, Max, and Krish today. When I checked their books in computer science they were writing excellent notes and aspiring to answer every question in excellent detail #endeavour
Phoebe: SO to Preston, Paris, Mikaal, Lana and Amima who were incredible in Spanish. They were following every instruction first time every time. By the end of the lesson, they produced the most amazing paragraphs in Spanish which I am so excited to mark!
Sarisha: SO to Ahmed in Don! Just had an excellent double science lesson where he produced some great work on biological drawings! He was very well focussed throughout!!
Thank you to all that were able to attend the Year 10 Getting to Know You Event: it was great to see you all, we are very excited for the year ahead!
In Week 3, Year 10 took part in the Jack Petchy Speak Out Challenge. Our pupils showed courage in expressing their ideas and contributed eagerly throughout the sessions. We will announce the finalists in the next newsletter!
Year 10 had 100% attendance for a few days in the last fortnight which we are celebrating in school. We would love for Year 10 to lead in the school with 100% attendance everyday!
Please continue to support us in this achievement and reach out to us if you need any support. We will continue to spread the joy in the lessons we deliver and in every interaction we have with the students.
Year 10 have made a fantastic start to their Art GCSE and I have been so impressed with both their talent and their focus and determination to be the best artists. Their first coursework theme is Aquatic Sculpture and they have produced exceptional biro tentacle drawings and beautifully observed pencil tonal shell drawings.
I am so excited to be on the GCSE Art journey with this wonderful year group!

We are delighted to share that Year 11 have made a fantastic start to the academic year. Their focus, maturity, and commitment to learning have been excellent, and we are confident that this positive attitude will support them in the important months ahead.
To support revision and build strong study habits, Year 11 currently have independent study sessions from 3:30pm to 4:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
As the year progresses, these sessions will increase to provide more opportunities for focused revision in a supportive environment.
It is vital that all Year 11 pupils complete their homework. Homework not only reinforces classwork but also plays a key role in preparing for assessments and final exams. Consistent completion of homework helps build revision notes and improves recall over time.
We are pleased to confirm that football for Year 11 pupils will take place on Thursdays from 4:30pm to 5:30pm.
This is a great opportunity for them to enjoy physical activity, teamwork, and balance alongside their academic commitments. There will other options soon to ensure an inclusive range of activities are available to them - stay tuned!
Year 11 have been working incredibly hard in English this term, studying 'A Christmas Carol'. They have shown real enthusiasm for the text and have been enjoying exploring Dickens’ characters, themes and language.
Their effort and commitment have been fantastic and we are proud to share examples of their excellent work below.

Some SO’s to share the joy:
Savarnah: SO to Aishah for some thoughtful contributions in English today and Mohamed for showing endeavour in his independent writing at the end of the lesson!
Sarah C: SO to Ameer - he is always endeavouring in History whether it's independent practice or through class contributions. Absolute superstar!
Ryme: SO to Daniya, Serena and Rutuja as they always go above and beyond for their English HW. They are expected to complete one essay but will give me a stack to mark, which I am asked to do ASAP because they 'NEED' the feedback! #GeniusDucklings #ExcellentEnglishScholars #Grade9Girlies 🥳
Clive: SO to Praise, Ruby and Calvin in Btec Sport this morning. They were working hard and did well in their knowledge checker quiz!
Kit: SO to Kai who every time I see him always asks how I am and how my weekend has been #obviouslykind
Faduma: SO to Y11 Set 2 who worked through some really challenging GCSE questions. Apparently they thought so hard that I 'fried their brain' 🤖 Special SO to Eshan who was flying through it with ease and such clear working out (deserving of a golden ticket if someone could supply him with one!)
Phoebe: SO to Ameer, Valli, Iris-Jay, Calvin, Elias, Ella and Eshan who have made such a brilliant start to Spanish in Y11 - they have already made so much progress and I have been so impressed with their knowledge. Really excited to teach them for the rest of the year!
Chloe V: SO to Mohaned, Omar, Max, Benigno and Danyia who all showed courage during a speaking task describing a photocard. They had such fantastic accents with some great vocabulary and voila!
Chloe S: SO to Akshaya who has written such a fantastic extended piece of writing in Spanish and received the golden ticket! 🏅
Izzy: SO to Cam I am so impressed with their independent practice, they were writing loads for an essay question and many wanted to continue despite it being time to transition 🤓 golden ticket to Aaishah for relentless endeavour 🌟
A huge shout out to GCSE art student Akshaya for this incredible and accomplished fragmented weave drawing inspired by Marilyn Monroe. This is part of Year 11's second coursework project linked to fragmented portraits! What an outstanding start to year 11!

A huge thank you to all parents and carers who attended our Year 12 Information Evening. Your support makes a real difference as students settle into sixth form life. We are grateful for the opportunity to share key information with you at this important stage of the year.
Year 12 students will be sitting their AP1 (course suitability) assessments next week. These provide an early indication of progress and help ensure students are on the right courses. Results will be shared with parents and carers by email on 6th October.
Last week, some Year 12 students enjoyed a memorable trip to the Houses of Parliament. It was a fantastic opportunity to experience first-hand how our democracy works and to broaden their understanding of political life.
This week saw the launch of the Year 12 enrichment programme. Students took part in a wide range of activities including volunteering, photography, art, Duke of Edinburgh and Model United Nations. We are delighted to see so many students embracing these opportunities to develop new skills and interests beyond the classroom.
Just a reminder that if you had Access Arrangements for your GCSEs in your previous school, please contact Angela Melia (angela.melia@reachacademy.org.uk) as soon as possible and complete the form sent via Google Classroom.
Our Year 13 students have been reminded of the internal UCAS deadline to help them stay on track with their university applications. Each student has also now been introduced to their mentor, who will provide personalised guidance and support throughout the process.
This weekend, many of our Year 13 students will be heading off on their Silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition. We wish them every success and look forward to hearing about their achievements when they return.
