Today, Friday 10th October marks World Mental Health Day... It is so important for us to mark this day and reset and think: what can I do to look after myself and other people, and how can I treat everyone with obvious kindness? That way we can all do our best for our child(ren) and ourselves.
As we have mentioned before, we are signed up to the fantastic resource, The Wellbeing Hub, which offers a wealth of information and resources about any topic you may have encountered while bringing up your families. You can find more information on this here.
We also have our Family Team: Kay Stone and new joiner, Michelle Coyte supporting our families. Kay has written this blog to mark World Mental Health Day, with top tips on how to look after yourself so that you can best support your child(ren).
There are also some useful tips on the Mental Health Website here.
We'd like to have an accurate picture of our young carers in the school, so we can build on what we provide already and offer them a supportive space in school, if needed. If you think your child might be a young carer, please complete this survey.
On Tuesday 21st October, pupils from Reach Academy Feltham are taking over the Arts Centre Hounslow to perform in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' by William Shakespeare. This is such a fantastic opportunity for them to perform in front of a public audience in our community and we very much hope you can come and support them. The play is one of Shakespeare's most well-known comedies, and centres around a number of misunderstandings about identity. The initiative sees schools from across the borough taking part over one week, with our turn on Tuesday 21st.
Tickets are priced at £10 and available through the Arts Centre by clicking here or scanning the QR code below. We hope to see you there!

Early Years - Key Stage 2
To our certificate winners over the past two weeks. Well done everyone!

Our topic this term is All About Me. We're learning about each other: how we look, what we like and dislike, and the ways we are both similar and different.
We've been working hard on learning to sit on our carpet spots and focus for short periods of time. This week, we read 'From Head to Toe' by Eric Carle and explored different body parts. Did you know that seals have flippers?

In the Seedlings class, we read 'What I Like About Me', a wonderful book that celebrates what makes us all unique!
Soon, we'll be painting our self-portraits! Using mirrors to observe our features, we'll try to capture what makes each of us special!
Thank you for logging onto Tapestry. You'll soon be receiving lovely photos of your children as they explore, learn and discover amazing things.
Our first nursery event will take place on Wednesday, 22nd October.
During the session, you’ll have the opportunity to join your child in making fun craft activities linked to our topic, All About Me and get to know each other too.
Your attendance at this event is really important. It will make a big difference to your child's self-esteem and enhance their enjoyment of nursery life.
This week, we have been exploring the well loved story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. The children have enjoyed taking part in a drawing journey to represent the different parts of the story. As a class, we’ve been practicing retelling the story using actions, expression and key vocabulary.
You can ask your child to tell you the story, they’ll love showing you what they remember!

.jpg?width=2000&height=1500&name=Copy%20of%20IMG_6162%20(1).jpg)

We’ve been working on writing our names clearly and confidently. A big part of this has been encouraging the children to hold their pencil correctly using the tripod grip.
The grip as shown in the photo helps develop good control for future writing.

To support your child at home, give them opportunities to practise writing their name with the correct grip.
Short, regular practice makes a big difference. To develop their hand grip and strength you could use playdough.
Here is a link to a dough disco activity that can support this.
As the weather becomes colder, we are helping children become more independent in managing their own coats, especially learning to zip them up. This not only keeps them warm, but also builds confidence and self-care skills.
At home, please encourage your child to practise putting on and zipping up their coat by themselves. It might take time, but your support will really help them succeed.
We use this fun way to describe to the children how to zip up their coat.
As a reminder coats, hats, scarves, gloves and hair accessories must be black, navy blue or royal blue (the same blue as the standard school jumper).
Year 1 enjoyed a brilliant trip to Kew Gardens last week, becoming Plant Scientists!
We are so proud of how well the children behaved at Kew and on the train. They were real ambassadors and the staff at Kew Gardens loved their enthusiasm for learning.
They explored different types of trees, leaves, parts of plants and how we can observe seasonal change. Thank you so much for the parent helpers who came with us and for making the trip possible!

The Year 1 Get To Know You Event is on Monday 20th October at 2pm. Keep your eyes peeled for official invitations coming soon! And don't forget to let us know you are coming by signing up on this form here.
In Writing, the children have begun to innovate their own story, 'The Tiger Who Came To Lunch!' We are really excited to see their own ideas come to life. They have been working incredibly hard with their grammatical and phonetic knowledge to create their own narratives and they have made so much progress.
We have started to explore addition and subtraction, using knowledge of number bonds and starting to learn new strategies. We have also explored composition of number and drawing on reasoning skills in Maths Meeting.
Book change will continue to run on a Friday and Reading Records are checked every day. Please ensure you are reading with your child and signing every day. This is so important for their progress and we really appreciate your support with it.
Thank you so much!
A huge thank you to everyone who came to our Get to Know You Event! It was so lovely to see parents and children playing and learning together. We really enjoyed getting to know each of you better, not just as parents, but as individuals with your own interests, talents, and stories. Building these connections helps us work as a team to support your children in the best way possible.
The children have now finished writing their reports on pirates, and what a fantastic job they did! We saw brilliant use of facts, expanded noun phrases and pirate-themed vocabulary. After reading their writing, we are now focusing on being consistent when writing in the past tense.
We have learned about:
You can help at home by spotting past tense verbs when reading or by asking, “How would we say that if it already happened?”

In Book Club, we have just finished reading 'Gorilla' by Anthony Browne: a beautiful story about Hannah, a girl who feels lonely until she has a magical adventure with a kind and gentle gorilla. The book explores themes of imagination, loneliness, and love.
You could ask your child questions such as:
We have now started 'The Day the Crayons Quit' by Drew Daywalt. This is a funny and creative story about a box of crayons who each write letters to their owner, Duncan, explaining why they’re unhappy!
Some crayons are overworked, some are ignored, and some just want a change.
The story is full of humour and teaches children about empathy, perspective and problem-solving.

Last week we finished our first unit and took an end of unit quiz (we call it a “show what you know”). The children were able to show what they had learned about number bonds to 20, comparing numbers using the language “greater/less than” and “equal to”, ordering numbers and using place value charts.
This week we started unit 2: Addition and Subtraction with 100. We reviewed number bonds to 10 and started thinking about how our knowledge of numbers to 10 can help with adding and subtracting within 100, using the sentence “If I know _, then I know _”. For example, “if I know that 3+4=7, then I know 13+4=17 and 30+40=70”.
This week marked our first week of homework in Year 2, and we want to say a big thank you for the support you’ve shown at home. We are so pleased to see children completing their three daily pieces: reading, writing and maths.
Building strong homework habits early on is key to helping children take responsibility for their own learning and to develop routines that will support them all through school. It all makes a difference: from practising core maths facts to improving handwriting speed and fluency, to reading every day to grow their vocabulary and confidence. Your encouragement at home truly makes a difference.
Last week, the children were introduced to our Year 2 system for demerits and sanctions. As part of this, any child who receives 15 or more demerits in a week spends Golden Time Friday reflecting with the help of an adult, thinking about what they can do differently the following week to reduce the number of demerits they receive.
This helps children take ownership of their choices and build strong self awareness skills. We have already seen many children showing real reflection and determination to make positive changes.
Year 3 are continuing to work really hard as we move through the term! We have finished our first piece of independent writing, based on 'The Magic Paintbrush'.
The children have worked incredibly hard showcasing their neat cursive handwriting and new grammar and punctuation rules that they have learned such as similes and direct speech.

We have also been working hard on our grammar and have been recapping some key definitions. Help us practise these at home!
VERB: An action word
NOUN: A person, place or thing
ADJECTIVE: A word that describes a noun
ADVERB: A word that describes a verb
PRONOUN: A word that is used instead of a noun (he, she, it)
We are learning all about place value. In the first unit of the term, children have been looking at the place value of numbers up to 1000. For example, 345 = 300 + 40 + 5. They have been comparing and ordering 3-digit numbers e.g. 345 > 329.
At home, it would be great if you could practise counting forwards and backwards within 1000. E.g. 348, 349/400, 401. The children are finding it tricky to break through the 100s barrier.
We have continued reading 'Ice Palace'. Ivan is still on his journey to find his little brother. However, he is facing a lot of difficulty due to the freezing cold weather and his own thoughts are leading him to doubt himself.
Questions you can ask your children:
We've explored the life of Jesus, including his birth, key teachings and miracles. The children have been particularly interested in the parables Jesus told, like the Good Samaritan, which teaches kindness and helping others.
The children have enjoyed learning about these stories and how they still influence people today!
This knowledge has allowed children to ask really insightful questions during our trip to St Lawrence Church Feltham. Here are some pictures from our visit.

We have had a great few weeks in Year 4 and we are getting so close to achieving the marbles required for our marble jar rewards at the end of the term!
Firstly, a massive thank you to all the adults who attended our Getting To Know You event last week. We loved meeting you and hope you enjoyed taking part in our sporting games!
Alongside all the fun, we have been working hard inside the classroom!
In Science, we are learning about ‘States of Matter’ and last week we learnt more about the properties of solids, liquids and gases. We also watched how these all reacted when they were heated. Please see this impressive booklet work from Niah.

We are studying ‘Water, Weather and Climate’ and have learnt about how rain forms over mountains.
Alongside this, we have started to read and analyse weather charts and learn the key stages of the water cycle. Aarush has worked super hard on this, as you can see here.
Still to come this term, we have the poetry slam! We started to learn our poem this week. Please practice our poem at home, so we can get our first win of the year!
I started my work, “Too tricky!” I cried,
But then I remembered, Reflect, and I tried.
A slip isn’t failure, mistakes help me grow,
Endeavour means sticking it out, even when it’s slow.
I pictured my dreams: bold, bright, and sky-high,
“Aspire!” I whispered. “Reach up! Give it a try!”
At break we played games, shared giggles and sun,
We learn even better when we can Have Fun!
Later, in writing, my hands felt like glue,
But I stood up tall and Showed Courage right through.
The more that I try, the stronger I get,
I’m learning, I’m growing, I’m not finished yet!
Thanks for all your continued support!
Jason, Alex, Jade and Yaran.
It has been a busy few weeks in Year 5 as we have completed our first independent writing piece, powered through our history unit on the Transatlantic Slave Trade and stormed through our maths unit on addition and subtraction.
In History, we have explored the ways in which enslaved people rebelled against the slave trade, focusing on riots that erupted in Barbados and Jamaica.
We encourage all our pupils to complete as many of the challenges in the homework grid below to consolidate their learning. There will be a special prize from Haniya for students who show lots of endeavour with this!

Lots of parents have enquired about homework, so here is the homework schedule for Year 5. Thank you for your continued support with this!
Reading records will continue to be checked daily. Please encourage your child to read out loud to you as much as possible to ensure they continue to build their fluency.
Last week, four of our Year 5 pupils (Sampada, Hateem, Samuel and Kelechi) represented us in a Maths Wizard competition hosted by Hampton School. They proved themselves to be ambassadors to our school community, showing off their obvious kindness and strong mathematical knowledge. Find some lovely pictures of their day at the competition below.

Our wonderful pupils have continued to make excellent progress in all areas of the curriculum. They have continued to show exemplary behaviour in their lessons and are beginning to reap the benefits of their hard work.
We want to congratulate our recent merit and value certificate winners!

In Book Club, we have continued to read ‘Letters From the Lighthouse’ by Emma Carroll. We have followed the protagonist, Olive, as she decoded a secret message and helped to rescue a boat of Jewish refugees escaping Nazi persecution.
During our lessons, we have worked hard on ensuring we are reading fluently, paying attention to our accuracy, fluency and prosody.
We have endeavoured to read in a loud and proud voice so that our peers are able to hear us clearly.

We have moved onto the addition and subtraction of decimal numbers. The key tip is to ensure we line up the decimal points first, before writing the digits making up the number in the correct place value. If necessary, we have used placeholders before adding or subtracting.

We learnt that about 10,000 Jewish children were evacuated from Nazi controlled Europe under a programme called the ‘Kindertransport’. We also learnt about the contribution of Black Britons to the war effort, including the remarkable Ulric Cross! He is the most decorated Caribbean airman of World War Two.
The attendance of our Year 6 cohort since the beginning of the year is 86%, which is far below our target figure of 97%. It is so important for your child to be in school as it's proven that this has a massive beneficial affect on academic progress and success.
Our pupils have worked extremely hard to improve their general fitness, with a major focus on agility, speed, stamina and strength. We have been getting stuck in with a variety of activities and exercises designed to improve all of these areas. We have made impressive progress since the beginning of the term!
As a reminder, we will be visiting the Imperial War Museum on Monday, 13th October. We will leave Reach Academy at about 9:10am, reaching the IWM via train and a short walk from London Waterloo. At the museum, we will explore its many exhibits, before returning home just in time for dismissal. We aim to be back by 3:30pm and we will keep you all updated if there are any changes to this.
On this day, please ensure that your children wear normal school uniform. They should bring a coat with them and their school bags, so they can carry their school lunch which we provide. Please ensure they have a water bottle with them as well as their reading book. If your child requires any medication, please make sure you administer this before the trip.
Your child will receive a packed lunch which you may compliment with fruits. Please do not send any additional snacks such as crisps, or chocolates, or any items containing nuts.
Please continue to support your child to complete their homework on time, in their homework book. If your child is unable to access the work, or is having difficulty completing it, then please do let us know as soon as possible so that we can provide support.
Class code: raxmo2xd
We have now added a magnetic darts board to the Primary playground! Our pupils have been having so much fun playing, whilst ensuring that they keep themselves and others safe.
If you would like your child to go home by themselves, please make sure you complete this form. Here is the letter containing the relevant information.

As we reach the end of the first half term, we want to take a moment to celebrate the fantastic effort and determination shown by our Year 11 students over the past six weeks. They have approached their studies with focus and maturity, and it’s been wonderful to see their commitment to achieving their best!
Year 11 mock exams will begin on Thursday, 7th November. Timetables have been shared with students via Google Classroom, so please encourage your child to check these carefully and plan their revision accordingly. These assessments are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their progress and identify areas to develop before the final exams.
We would like to remind all Year 11 students of the importance of completing homework regularly. Homework supports classroom learning and helps consolidate key knowledge and skills, making it an essential part of effective revision in preparation for the mocks.
Thank you for your continued support in helping Year 11 make such a positive start to this crucial year. We are very proud of their hard work so far and look forward to seeing their achievements in the weeks ahead.

We encourage students to begin preparing early, using class notes, revision guides, and feedback from previous assessments.
Our Year 13s have now been introduced to their UCAS mentors and given their mini deadlines to help them stay on track with university applications. Please take a moment to ask your child about their UCAS progress — especially their Personal Statement, which they should now be drafting and refining with their mentor’s support.

Did you know GPs in Hounslow now offer more same day appointments for under 5s, including early evening slots? It’s a safer, faster alternative to waiting in A&E. You can first check your child’s symptoms on the Hounslow Healthier Together website before deciding where best to seek care.

We encourage all of our families to join the Wellbeing Hub. Our school is signed up to this fantastic resource which gives families and their children free access to great content on everything including starting school for the first time, puberty, smartphones and anxiety. There are really helpful resources for all ages.
If you haven’t joined the Hub yet, we urge you to do so through using the QR code opposite.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Kay Stone. kay.stone@reachacademy.org.uk

Some of you might be aware that Anne and Paul's Feltham Wool Shop next to Reach Academy Feltham is due to close down on Saturday 8th November. They have been trying to find someone to take over the shop, but so far have not found the right fit. If anyone is interested they're urging people to drop in or give them a call on 02088937779.
As closing date becomes closer there will be some bulk discounts at the shop. The owners would like to say a heartfelt thank you to staff and customers over the years for their unwavering support.

Our PTA is already signed up to easyfundraising - a very simple way to add extra money to the PTA. Money is donated as you spend it in more than 8,000 retailers, including Tescos, Argos and John Lewis. Click here to sign up:
We know that in the current climate, there can be numerous pressures on families and that these can be constantly changing from month to month. We want to raise awareness of our ‘Connect the Community’ fund that can be used by families to support you to reduce any financial pressures.
Hounslow Council has a Local Offer website, offering support to professionals and families with children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
