Early Years - Key Stage 2
We have had a wonderful few weeks in Reception! The children have been exploring the theme of celebrations, with a special focus on birthdays. In the home corner, they have loved retelling the story of Kipper’s Birthday and baking imaginative cakes in the playdough area.

The children have been challenging themselves to write invitations for their own birthday parties and have been busy innovating their own stories. This week, we continued our work on Kipper’s Birthday, creating new characters and adapting different parts of the story to make it our own.

We have been learning all about addition and subtraction. The children have been using a part–part–whole model to help them understand how numbers fit together when adding and subtracting.
During busy learning, they have been applying these skills in the home corner by counting candles on cakes, or working out how many balloons they have for their party preparations.
We are very excited about our upcoming Nativity! The children have been practising their songs and actions, thinking carefully about how to perform confidently as part of a team. They have been learning what makes a great performance, and what they need to do when it is their turn on stage. Please encourage them to share the songs and actions with you at home: they will be thrilled to show you what they’ve learned!
Next week, we will be heading off on our trip to the Lyric Theatre on Tuesday 2nd December. The children are eagerly looking forward to seeing an exciting performance of Raymond Brigg's Father Christmas, and building their confidence as they travel with their friends.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. It truly helps make our learning environment such a joyful place. We are incredibly proud of how hard the children have been working and how much they have already achieved this term.
We look forward to sharing many more exciting experiences with them in the weeks ahead!
We are delighted to share what a brilliant start Year 1 has made so far this school year. The children are settling into their routines and are showing great enthusiasm, independence and curiosity across all areas of learning.
We have been focusing on instructions. The children are writing ‘How To Make A Jam Sandwich’. They have spent time stepping through each part of the sequence using actions and talk, and they can now confidently retell the full process out loud.
We have been working hard to include adverbs of time (first, next, then, after, finally) and imperative verbs (cut, spread, put). It has been wonderful to see so many pupils beginning to write their instructions independently and remembering these key features.

We are continuing our unit on the composition of the numbers 11–19. The children have explored finding missing parts in addition equations and are now applying this understanding to subtraction. They have been practising using several strategies, including place value charts, keeping a number in their head and counting forwards or backwards and using the part-part-whole model.
You may wish to practise this at home: a helpful reminder for your child is that the whole is always the biggest number and equations can also be seen in the following format too:
__ = __ + ___ and __ + __ = ___
__ = __ - ___ and __ - __ = ___
We are continuing our Learning Explorers afternoons, where children take part in hands-on activities each week linked to science, humanities and art. This week in science, the children explored the parts of a plant using magnifying glasses to observe leaves, stems and petals closely.
In geography, they sorted landmarks into human features and physical features. In art, the children designed and built their own famous landmarks using junk modelling. They have shown fantastic creativity and teamwork: enjoy looking at the photos!

A few reminders for the term ahead: please ensure that all clothing is clearly labelled with your child's names to help avoid items going missing.
We also want to highlight the importance of good attendance and arriving on time every morning. Learning begins the moment children enter the classroom with our ‘soft start’, where they develop fine motor skills that support writing and independence. This is followed immediately by phonics, which is a vital part of early reading.
Finally, thank you for continuing to support reading at home. We ask that children read aloud for 10 minutes each day, and that reading records are signed daily by an adult. These are checked every morning before form time. The school reading book is carefully matched to each child’s stage to build fluency and confidence, but children are also very welcome to read and record books from home too.
Thank you for your continued support. We are so proud of the positive start Year 1 have made and look forward to sharing more of their achievements with you soon!
Congratulations to Kilimanjaro who won the Attendance award the week before last and to all our other certificate winners below! Last week this went to Fuji with 100% for the week - such a great effort!
Last week our payslip heroes were: Adam P (Aconcagua), Niharika (Elbrus), Sofiia (Fuji), Senudi (Everest), Isabela (Kili) Waniya (Matterhorn).
Star of the week for Year 7 was Kai. Well done to all of them!

Year 7 has been reading about the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. It is an Ancient Greek story about the hero Theseus, son of the king of Athens, who volunteers to be one of the youths sent as a tribute to Crete to be sacrificed to the monstrous Minotaur. The Minotaur was a half-man, half-bull creature kept in the Labyrinth, an elaborate maze designed by Daedalus. With the help of King Minos's daughter, Ariadne, who gave him a ball of string to find his way out, Theseus navigated the Labyrinth, killed the Minotaur, and returned to Athens with the other Athenians.
The focus has been on a moral of the myth. The pupils will also be introduced to similar myths that they can derive a moral from, with the idea that they use them as allusions in their own writing. This is all in preparation for their GCSE’s. These are skills needed to achieve grades 7-9 in order for them to have a life of choice and opportunity.

We are very much looking forward to the End of Cycle Drama Assessments this week, after the successful Mid cycle Assessments.
All the very best!!
Congratulations to Shayan A in Elbrus who is our first Year 7 to win a Reach Academy Hanworth Park reading badge. Shayan won the badge for his commitment to reading. He visits the library each week and has been enjoying reading A Series of Unfortunate Events, and plenty of non-fiction too.
This week pupils have been focusing on their end of Cycle assessments. It has been such a joy to see the copious amounts of endeavour and aspiration shown by them during both their preparation and completion of the Maths assessment. They should be incredibly proud of their efforts and I look forward to sharing their results with them.
In amongst their busy assessment timetable, pupils have started on their multiplication and division unit. They have been working on multiplying with decimals, using their prior work on place value to support their learning.
Congratulations to Dhiyaan on being the Subject Scholar of the Week. He has worked incredibly hard in lessons, shown endeavour at home with his independent learning, and made some brilliant contributions during Axiom Maths club. Keep up the great work Dhiyaan!
Congratulations as well to the following students who achieved 100% in their weekly quiz.

A few weekends ago, Kabir in Fuji competed at the Chalfont Otters County Qualifiers for swimming. He swam amazingly and finished with these results:
1st place - 200m breast stroke, 100m fly, 50m freestyle
2nd place - 50m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 100m freestyle
Congratulations Kabir and keep it up!!

Please send in any more of your children's sporting achievements so we can celebrate them in school!
Year 7 have been continuing their netball unit work and have just completed the written PE assessments that they have been working so hard for. We are into our last two weeks of netball before moving onto gymnastics. Please see this letter about grip socks that pupils will be able to wear instead of going bare foot.
Over the next few weeks, the students will be participating in inter-form netball competitions during their activity lunch break. The first match is this Friday: Aconcagua vs Elbrus. Good luck to all the students showing courage and playing in their teams.
Finally, congratulations to Diego, who won last weeks PE scholar card for his excellent netball over the last few weeks.
A huge congratulations to all Year 7 pupils in their first ever end of cycle assessments! The science assessment was the first one last week, and all of them showed great endeavour. I am looking forward to seeing the results after all their hard work.
Since the assessment, Year 7 have been continuing with their working scientifically topic. They have been incredibly successful in drawing bar charts and line graphs. This is a skill that will help them achieve excellent results. Next week, pupils will be starting their final chemistry topic of the year: acids and alkalis.
A huge shout out to our Year 8 librarians, Maja, Naila, Lakshmi, Muntaha, Hafsah and Charlotte, who support Lily in the library every Tuesday and Thursday. These pupils give up their lunch break to help keep the library tidy and organised for others. Thank you!

We have some new books for the library based on requests from Year 8 pupils. These include the Jason Reynold’s Run series and A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson.

Congratulations to our first ever winners of the Year 8 Reading Badges! These badges have been given to pupils who show great enthusiasm for reading, who regularly visit our school library and who have made excellent progress with their reading.
Well done to Madison, Mourad, Rayaan U, Charvee and all our librarians who are our first pupils in Year 8 to receive the badge!

This week pupils have been focusing on their end of Cycle assessments. It has been wonderful to witness the huge amounts of endeavour and aspiration shown during both their preparation and completion of the Maths assessment. They should be incredibly proud of their efforts and I look forward to sharing their results with them.
Following this assessment period, the pupils have just finished their ‘Equations’ unit and have been learning to form and solve equations in multiple different contexts.
Congratulations to Senudi on being the Subject Scholar of the Week. She has shown so much endeavour in and outside lessons. She consistently completes extra Sparx homework and independent learning through the Sparx codes for her Maths assessment.
Congratulations as well to the following pupils who achieved 100% in their weekly quiz.

Year 8 have done fantastically well in PE over the last few weeks. They have two more weeks of netball before moving onto gymnastics. Please see this letter about grip socks that can be worn instead of bare feet for these lessons.
Last week our Year 8 boys football team had the amazing opportunity to play at Brentford football club's training ground against Heston. Unfortunately they were not the winners this time, but it was such an amazing opportunity for the boys. Well done to Amir, Ethan, Sandalu, Tanveer, Rayaan, Hassan, Harrison and Mourad!
We have just started our inter-form netball competition, with all the matches taking place across the next two weeks. On Monday Kilimanjaro and Matterhorn played and the score was 2-2. Congratulations to Maja who was named Player of the Match (POM).
Maja is also our winner of the PE scholar card this week. Well done Maja!
A huge congratulations to all of Year 8 for sitting their first end of cycle assessment for science last week! I was very impressed with how focused the year group was and how seriously they took their assessments.
This week we have returned to our final chemistry topic of the year, finishing the elements of the periodic table. This topic includes some GCSE content, which pupils are handling incredibly well: I know they are going to do so well!
Some exciting news (which you may have heard) is that we will now be using SPARX in science. Pupils will have 30 minutes of homework on SPARX each week for science. This will help them to space out revision of the Year 7 content throughout the year. The deadline for SPARX is each Tuesday at 9am.
Please support your child by encouraging them complete this sooner, rather than later each week.

Grief is hard to deal with at any age, but it can be particularly bewildering for children and young people. Next week is Grief Awareness Week and as part of that we're sharing more information on where you can find support for your child(ren) and young people.
Please find more information on a play centre for children to meet other children who have lost a family member here.
There is also information on supporting children and young people with grief and loss via Winston's Wish charity here.
Lastly, the Good Grief Trust gives an overview of a number of organisations that can help support anyone who is struggling with loss here.

Domestic abuse, whether towards a female or male partner, can significantly affect the children who live in that environment. Exposure to violence, coercion or ongoing emotional manipulation disrupts a child’s sense of safety and can influence their behaviour, relationships and engagement in learning.
These situations are often hard to spot. Many victims work to hide what is happening, particularly from official agencies, due to fear of consequences for the abusive partner or worries about major upheaval for the family.
Hestia is a London-based charity that supports adults and children in crisis, delivering frontline services and campaigning nationally on issues such as domestic abuse, modern slavery and mental health. They have created the Bright Sky app, a free and discreet tool that helps people recognise signs of abuse, access specialist support and record concerns safely.
The Bright Sky app provides:
