If you didn't know already, we are celebrating World Book Day on Friday 6th March. We can't wait! This is such a great opportunity to talk about the books we love, share them with each other and dress up as our favourite characters. Everyone in the school is invited to become someone else for the day from their favourite book. Pupils in Year 7 and Year 8 will be reading with Reception and Year 1 children.
Last year's highlights were Louis as Paddington Bear and Tilly as Pippi Longstocking as well as some fantastic costumes from all our pupils.
Please note that we are celebrating on the Friday, while many other schools are marking the day before: please don't dress up on the wrong day!
We are so proud of Lakshmi who is currently in Year 8, who was awarded an A* in her iGCSE in Sanskrit, which she took aged just 12! We are wondering if this means she is the youngest person to get the highest grade in this subject. Whether she is or not, she has worked so hard on mastering the script, the languages and the grammar in her own time outside school at such a young age. Most people take their GCSEs when they are in Year 11, not Year 7 as she did. Her dad told us 'she has worked very, very, very hard'.
Well done Lakshmi, what endeavour and aspiration!

Early Years - Key Stage 2
Dear parents and carers,
We have had an amazing few weeks in Reception, full of exciting learning and exploration.
As part of our topic, the children have been learning all about the role of a police officer. They have explored what police officers do, the equipment and clothing they need, and how they help us to keep safe. During busy learning, the children have been fully engaged in role play, discovering clues and investigating the home corner and classrooms to work out which 'crimes' may have been committed. This has encouraged lots of discussion, teamwork and problem solving!

The children have also been learning about laws and why they are important, making links between laws in our country and the rules we follow in school. This week, we were very lucky to have a visit from a police officer, who spoke to the children about their job, how they help the community, and how they keep people safe. The children asked lots of thoughtful questions and really enjoyed the visit.
The children have been exploring sharing and grouping. They have been learning how to share amounts equally and make groups through practical, hands on activities. During busy learning, they linked this to our previous topic on firefighters, thinking about how many firefighters are in each fire engine and how many groups they could make. The children have also been applying their maths skills throughout the day, sharing snacks and lunchtime food fairly.
We would like to gently remind you that children should not bring toys from home into school in their pockets or bags. The only things they need are a change of clothes, their water bottle and their book change wallets (on a Thursday). Please also make sure that children have water and not juice in their bottles at school. Thank you.
It has been wonderful to see the children so enthusiastic, curious and confident in their learning. Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
The Reception Team
Dear Year 1 parents and carers,
We have had another busy and exciting time in Year 1, and we are so proud of the enthusiasm the children are showing in their learning.
Thank you so much to those of you who, since our phonics workshop, have let us know about the work you are completing with your child at home. It really does make a difference!
Below is a summary of what we have been working on recently, along with some ideas for how you can support your child at home. Additionally, please check the curriculum overview here, if you haven't already, to see what is coming up next half term!
The children have been exploring different strategies to solve number equations. We have been focusing on choosing an efficient strategy, including the make 10 strategy, known facts and counting on. The children are becoming more confident in explaining how they work things out, which is a key part of their learning.
Here are some examples from our lessons!

At home you can:
The children have been innovating the story 'The Dinosaur Who Lost His Roar' by creating their own versions with a different animal. We have been focusing on using adjectives to describe how things look and sound, helping to make their writing more interesting for the reader.
We have also been learning about exclamations and when it is appropriate to use an exclamation mark. Here are some examples from our lessons!

At home you can:
We have been learning about the first moon landing and why it was such a significant moment. The children discussed how this event has helped science to develop, and talked about the important traits the astronauts and their team needed, such as: bravery, teamwork and perseverance.
Next term we are looking forward to our new module: The Great Fire of London.
At home you could try some of the following:

We have been learning about different types of materials and how they let light pass through them. The children have been exploring and sorting materials into transparent, translucent and opaque, and investigating how this affects what we can see.
At home you can:
In the event that a reading book is lost, a £5 replacement charge will be added to your ParentPay account to cover the cost of replacement. Thank you for your understanding.
We hope you have a lovely half term break.
The Year 7 pupils have been reading 'I am Malala' this cycle. In the book Malala Yousafzai employs powerful rhetoric, primarily using pathos (emotional appeal), ethos (credibility), and vivid imagery to advocate for universal education and combat extremist oppression.
She shares her personal, harrowing experience of being shot by the Taliban to build credibility and evoke empathy. The pupils have written their own speeches for their mid cycle assessment using powerful rhetorical techniques.

We will be celebrating World Book Day on Friday 6th March. All pupils and teachers are invited to dress up as a book character. Pupils in Year 7 and Year 8 will get the chance to read with pupils from Reception and Year 1 on the day. Get thinking about your costumes now!
Thank you to all the Year 7s who entered the Young Writers’ Poetry Competition. The theme was 'I have a dream' and we had some excellent entries.
This week our Year 7 pupils have made a start on their negative numbers unit. They have been working incredibly hard on adding and subtracting with negative numbers, taking care to follow the three step process of Start, Direction, Distance. It has been fantastic to see our mathematicians showing so much endeavour and courage in lessons.
In Axiom maths this week our pupils received their brand new badges, which they are wearing with pride on their blazers. This is such a fitting reward for so much hard work and aspiration being shown in the sessions after school on a Monday.
Congratulations to the following students who achieved 10/10 in their practice quiz this week.

Congratulations as well to Prithvi who was this week’s Maths Subject scholar. Prithvi has been working exceptionally hard in lessons and with his independent work at home. We have no doubt that he will continue to build on the outstanding progress he has made this year.
A huge well done to the pupils who got 100% on their science quiz this week: Avin, Holly, Isla, Jasmin, Matilda, Nicole, Prithvi, Owais, Kanshikaa, Ali, Juliana, Mohamed, Nikita, Ayaan, Ellie-Mae, Kabir, Kelbin, Kerri, Muhammad, Nirvan, Panavdeep, Shayaan, Wajahat, Ydelle and Yousef. Really well done!
We are almost at the end of our first biology topic (cells). After the half term holiday we will begin the new biology topic of biological systems, with a focus on digestion and food. To prepare pupils for their end of cycle 2 assessments, they will all been given homework which includes LASACAWAC of the cells topic and exam questions which will be marked.
Our Year 7 boys combined with Reach Academy Feltham Year 7’s for the first time against Heston school. The match was great and the boys put in so much endeavour. They came away with a 2-1 win, well done to Muhammad S for scoring both goals!

We have just started football in lessons, and are a few weeks in. I have been really impressed with the effort everyone has been giving, even in some rather wet conditions. Just a reminder that pupils are able to wear gloves and a non bobble hat in colder weather. See below some photos of them in action!

As we move towards the end of cycle 2, Year 8 have really been enjoying reading 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' and have developed a real passion for both gothic and detective fiction.
See below for some recommendations for pupils who have enjoyed reading the Victorian detective novel:

Thank you to all the Year 8s who entered the Young Writers’ Poetry Competition. The theme was 'Winter Wonderland' and we had some excellent entries.
Year 8 are now working their way through a very exciting topic covering DNA, inheritance and evolution and they are approaching the topic with a brilliant level of engagement and interest!

This week Year 8 have been learning how to find the area of triangles, parallelograms and trapeziums. They have then built on this knowledge to work backwards to find the missing lengths of these shapes when given the area. We will soon be finishing their 'Angles and Shapes' unit with finding the area of compound shapes. Please encourage your children to revise for the upcoming end of cycle 2 assessments which will start two weeks after half term. They will receive a revision list for this assessment.
Shout Out to the pupils who earned 100% in their maths weekly quiz.

The Year 8 end of topic test scores for the last biology topic were excellent! Shout out to the following students for getting 100%: Jiya, Charvee and Hassan!
Also a big shout out to the following pupils who got 10/10 on their weekly quiz this week:

Our Year 8 netball and football teams have recently played Reach Academy Feltham in our Reach matches. The girls played an amazing game of netball and won 11-8. It was very close and competitive towards the end, so well done girls!
The boys also played the RAF Year 8 boys and lost, but they played really well and showed great sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.

Some of our Year 8 boys played in a match against Lampton school this week and won 7-4. The boys played amazingly and represented RAHP so well. Well done to Hassan, Sandalu, Harrison, Adam, Mourad, Amir and Ethan.
We have had really impressive attendance so far in our school!
Our current year to date attendance is 96.7%.
Primary is 95.8%, Secondary is 97.4% and our highest class attendance in secondary is 7Fuji with 97.9%.
This week Matterhorn had a surprise cupcake and juice party as a reward for 100% for over a week. Who can do it next?

Roblox can be a creative and enjoyable space, but because games and social spaces are created by users, children’s experiences can vary widely. Many children start playing in primary school, often sharing games and conversations with much older users. Settings help, but they work best when combined with regular
conversations and adult interest.

Domestic abuse, whether towards a female or male partner, can significantly affect the children who live in that environment. Exposure to violence, coercion or ongoing emotional manipulation disrupts a child’s sense of safety and can influence their behaviour, relationships and engagement in learning.
These situations are often hard to spot. Many victims work to hide what is happening, particularly from official agencies, due to fear of consequences for the abusive partner or worries about major upheaval for the family.
Hestia is a London-based charity that supports adults and children in crisis, delivering frontline services and campaigning nationally on issues such as domestic abuse, modern slavery and mental health. They have created the Bright Sky app, a free and discreet tool that helps people recognise signs of abuse, access specialist support and record concerns safely.
The Bright Sky app provides:
