Our Year 8s were treated to a lovely activity this week: learning how to make mosaics. A team from Hounslow Council are creating mosaics to go around some of the trees in Feltham and asked for our help.
The brief was to create a design with the theme of sport and activity. The pupils cut and stuck down small pieces of tiles to create their colourful designs. The designs will eventually be placed together on larger circular mosaics around our local community. We can't wait to see them finished and in place (around Easter time), and in the meantime here are some designs that you can look out for when you're around the local area. Thank you so much to the wonderful charity Timegivers for organsining our involvement in this initiative.

Early Years - Key Stage 2
What a wonderful start to the new year we have had in Reception! The children have settled back into school routines beautifully and have shown great enthusiasm and excitement for their learning.
This term, the children have been exploring a range of different jobs and learning about how these roles help us in our everyday lives. We have discussed occupations including dentists, doctors and shopkeepers, and the important contributions they make to our community.
We have been reading a non-fiction book about different jobs. The children have been learning about the key features of fact books and their purposes, including the front cover, title and contents page. They have enjoyed creating their own book covers and designing a contents page for their own non-fiction books. We have also focused on understanding the differences between fiction and non-fiction texts, which the children have found very exciting.
We have been learning about “one more” within 10. The children have confidently applied this knowledge across the week, using it in practical activities and problem-solving situations.
Our focus has been on learning about the reasons we might need to visit the doctor. Through role play with baby dolls, the children have explored different scenarios where the babies were unwell, and discussed what treatment might be needed. This has encouraged thoughtful discussion and imaginative play.
We have been exploring the concept of adagio (slow tempo) and how this style of music makes us feel. It has been lovely to see how engaged and responsive the children have been during these sessions.
We are incredibly proud of how well the children have settled back into school life and the enthusiasm and love they have shown for their learning.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you all had a lovely holiday and a Happy New Year!
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you all had a restful break. It has been lovely to welcome the children back. They have returned so settled, enthusiastic and ready to learn.
Thursday 29th Jan: 2:30pm- 3:15pm
Please join us for our Mid Year Celebration Event and Parent Workshop!
At this event, we will start with a short parent workshop to help us align on how we can support the children in Year 1 with phonics and maths. After the workshop, the children will join us and we will hand out some certificates to celebrate accomplishments from this year so far. Afterward, the children will guide you through their ‘Learning Showcase’.
We warmly invite all parents and caregivers of Year 1 children to join us. We would love to see as many of you there as possible. Please let us know if you are not able to attend so we can invite a member of staff to join your child at the event.
Please keep an eye out for a special invite from your child coming soon!
In the classrooms we have started the year with our refreshed provision, and the children have been busy exploring a wide range of areas during their Learning Explorer time. These include a construction area, art, writing, junk modelling and science. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity, creativity and independence develop as they engage with these activities.

This half term in writing, we are focusing on the story 'The Dinosaur Who Lost His Roar.' The children have already begun mapping and learning the story, and we are excited to see their confidence grow as they retell and explore it further.
Our focus is on breaking down word problems using the structure ‘first, then, now’. This is helping the children develop their understanding of simple calculations and problem-solving skills.
We have begun our new module on materials and building. The children are learning about which materials objects are made from, and exploring why certain materials are used for different purposes.
We are exploring the changes in travel and learning about some significant figures who created different modes of transportation.
Maple: Tuesday and Wednesday
Willow: Monday and Thursday
Please ensure that you are reading and signing your reading records every day. If you are reading another book alongside your phonics book, please write this in your reading record. We would love to see which books you are reading at home together!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Please do not hesitate to speak to us if you have any questions.
Kind Regards,
The Year 1 Team
Congratulations to Yasmi in Year 7 who has been chosen as a Reading Plus Champion for this academic year!
The Reading Plus Champion initiative is organised by Daisy Education (the provider of Reading Plus) as an opportunity for children who are passionate about reading to get involved with exciting reading activities. After a glowing nomination from RAHP, Yasmi is one of twenty nationwide to be selected as a Reading Plus Champion for the academic year 2025/26.
As a Reading Plus Champion, Yasmi will have the opportunity to complete activities such as:

Thank you to all of Year 7 who entered our Private Peaceful creative response competition. We had some beautiful entries which will now go on display downstairs in the school.
A shout out to Anaya, who was chosen as the winner for her fantastic letter. Well done also to Dhiyaan and Haniyah, who were runners up!

Having finished their unit on Multiplication and Division, our Year 7 mathematicians have now started to endeavour with powers, roots and primes. They have built their confidence with squaring and cubing numbers and most students have already memorised their first 15 square numbers. We will continue to build on this when we apply the knowledge to index rules and calculating volume and area.
Axiom Maths Club was also lucky enough this week to have a visit from the Axiom Maths team. This was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to demonstrate the superb work they have been doing after school every Monday. If you are interested in joining Axiom Maths club, come and speak to David!
Congratulations to the following students who achieved 100% in their quiz this week. Keep up the great work.

A particular well done to Avin who received the Maths Subject Scholar postcard this week. Avin has been working consistently well, making huge progress both in lessons and on his independent work.
All Year 7 classes have come back from the break really refreshed and working hard at the start of cycle 2. The pupils will have their end of topic test next week for chemistry and are all really excited to start their new biology topic on cells.
In the next newsletter look out for the names of those who have achieved GDS in their end of topic test. Please feel free to use the LASACAWAC homework this week to quiz your children and prepare them for the assessment.
In the new biology topic, pupils are excited to be able to use the science lab. Our first practical is coming soon and we will be using microscopes to look at cells.
Finally the rearranged nature walk for Bertha Earth is coming up at the end of January. More information will be sent home in due course.
Year 7 has had an amazing start to 2026. They have been working so hard in their gymnastics lessons to put together routines with their partners, making sure these look aesthetically pleasing while focusing on rolls, balances, jumps and shapes.
Special shoutout to Millie, Durkhanai, Lacie, Matilda and Isla who have each performed some amazing routines and have shown great gymnastic ability. Well done girls!
I am really excited to say that we have some netball and football fixtures coming up, with our first against RAF in a few weeks time.
Good luck to all those selected and involved in the matches.
Finally, the West London Eagles handball club has free taster sessions available for those interested in giving it a try. Training is on the weekends and families can find out more by emailing: westlondeagles@gmail.com

This half term all pupils will be lent a copy of 'Girl, Missing', which they will be expected to read at home alongside a book of their choice and some non-fiction writing. Please support us by ensuring your child does this reading each week.
Information about reading deadlines and tips for parents of reluctant readers can be found here on the reading page of our website.

Please note, pupils may read the book more quickly, if they wish. However, we will be holding quizzes and discussions at school based on the table below.

End of book |
Pupils will need to read roughly 45 pages per week of this book. This could be broken down into 4 lots of 10-12 pages, which should work well with the 30 minutes per day required reading.
Well done to all of Year 8 who completed their reading of 'When the Sky Falls' by Phil Earle over the holidays. We were really impressed with the enthusiasm the pupils had for this novel, with lots of Year 8s feeling emotional at the end of the book.
If your child enjoyed this book, then we would recommend the following:

This week in maths, Year 8 have continued their unit on ‘ratio and proportional reasoning.’ They have learned the difference between direct and inverse proportion and how to solve problems involving direct and inverse proportion. Building on this knowledge, they have explored how to calculate percentage change and increase or decrease an amount by a percentage using calculators. We will finish this unit by learning how to find original amounts when given the percentage change and the new amount.
Congratulations to our Sparx stars of the week in Year 8 who have completed the most independent work in maths: Zain, Aryan and Lucy
Congratulations to the pupils who achieved 100% in their weekly quiz as well:

Roblox can be a creative and enjoyable space, but because games and social spaces are created by users, children’s experiences can vary widely. Many children start playing in primary school, often sharing games and conversations with much older users. Settings help, but they work best when combined with regular
conversations and adult interest.

Our fantastic Family and Community Team is starting a ten week nurturing programme for parents and carers in the New Year. It is for those who look after children in Years 1 to 6 and will begin on 14th January.
The workshops focus on family life, understanding our children and how they develop, and how to manage challenging behaviour. You can sign up for this fantastic programme here.

Domestic abuse, whether towards a female or male partner, can significantly affect the children who live in that environment. Exposure to violence, coercion or ongoing emotional manipulation disrupts a child’s sense of safety and can influence their behaviour, relationships and engagement in learning.
These situations are often hard to spot. Many victims work to hide what is happening, particularly from official agencies, due to fear of consequences for the abusive partner or worries about major upheaval for the family.
Hestia is a London-based charity that supports adults and children in crisis, delivering frontline services and campaigning nationally on issues such as domestic abuse, modern slavery and mental health. They have created the Bright Sky app, a free and discreet tool that helps people recognise signs of abuse, access specialist support and record concerns safely.
The Bright Sky app provides:
