Remember:

Thank you for not using or being on your mobile phone when you collect your child. We understand that mobile phones are an essential part of our daily lives, but we kindly ask that you refrain from using them during this important time, as your child looks forward to seeing you at the end of the day to reconnect with you, and share what they have been doing.
Being fully present for your child in general, and at these key times, not only shows them that they are your priority but also helps them feel safe and valued which help them to become resilient adults.
Psychology Today have carried out studies into the damage that can be done when parents are physically present, but distracted and less responsive because they’re attending to their smartphones, here is the link if you wish to read the article.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in making our school a nurturing and supportive environment for all the children.
Warm regards,
Reach Academy Feltham
Early Years - Key Stage 2
This week the Saplings have been completing the Big Goal of visiting a Post Office. We were able to walk sensibly using the duckling line, follow instructions, cross the road safely, stick our stamps on the letters, post them and most importantly, have fun!
We were really excited to post our invitations to our families and are really looking forward to seeing our families come into Nursery on the19th to watch our performance of ‘Don’t let the pigeon drive the bus!’

At the end of June, the Seedlings visited Tesco to buy some interesting fruit. We came back to the Nursery and had great fun eating all the delicious, juicy fruit. Some of us really aspired to try fruit that we’d never eaten before.

In Literacy, we have been learning the story ‘The Fisherman and his wife’. We have been looking at the moral within the story which is to be grateful for what you have. The children have been writing about what they are grateful for and sharing this with their classmates.
We have also been creating our own pictures and stories about magic fish independently. When doing our writing, we are using our phonics knowledge to help us write independently. Please encourage your child at home to write their own story about a magic fish and bring this into school to share with their class.
In Maths, we have been focusing on subtraction within 10. We have been using our number bonds knowledge to support us with our subtraction. We have been using our subtraction knowledge to buy ice cream from our class ice cream shop so that we can give accurate change. Please practise subtraction with your child at home and share this with us on tapestry.

As part of our big goals, we planted tomato seeds. We have been taking care of our tomatoes, ensuring that they have what they need to grow. Each day, the children have been watering their tomatoes and ensuring that they have enough sunlight. Our tomatoes have grown tall and we have now planted them on the farm. We hope to see some red tomatoes soon.

We have been having an amazing time in our art lessons creating collages with tissue paper. We have had to carefully draw our designs with a pencil and a ruler before cutting up the paper and sticking it into our books!
We have also been working hard in our maths lessons and have had some exciting lessons outside on the playground! We spent a morning throwing beanbags and measuring them with our metre sticks to see who threw them the furthest!

We are looking forward to our last few weeks in Y1 and can’t wait to see you all at the Y1 parent celebration event on Tuesday 16th July at 14:30.
Our wonderful Y2 students have been working extremely hard as students prepare to move up to Year 3.
In Maths, children have been finishing their arithmetic unit, working on subtracting using the column method.
In Geography, we learned early human societies were nomadic, meaning they didn’t have permanent settlements as they moved from place to place in the search for food and shelter. Around 10,000 years ago, as humans made advances in farming and the domestication of animals, more permanent settlements became commonplace. We then learnt about the features of cities and how the land within is used for residential, commercial and industrial use, linked by different types of transportation.
In Science, we have learnt about desert and rainforest habitats. We learnt that there are hot deserts (such as the Sahara) and cold deserts such as the Antarctic. The key feature of deserts is that they are extremely dry. In contrast, rainforests (such as the Amazon) are characterised by their humid and rainy weather. They are mostly located between the two Tropics, around the Equator.

Over the last two weeks, Year 3 have been completing their assessments. We are so unbelievably proud of the endeavour and courage that they have all shown! Well done team! Please see a picture of them enjoying their ice lollies as a reward.

This term in DT, the children are focusing on a textiles unit. Within this, they have been designing and making a cushion. They have been thinking carefully about what makes a great cushion including ensuring it is durable and aesthetically pleasing. The children have been learning how to cross stitch and will be using this to construct their cushion. They are also using a sewing technique called appliqué to sew patches of fabric onto other pieces of fabric.
In Writing this term, the children have written an adventure narrative based on the book Stone Age boy. In the children’s writing, they wrote their own enthralling story in which a character travelled back to a different period of history. Within this piece of writing, they used literary devices such as ellipses to build suspense and keep the reader hooked! Here are some examples of the fantastic writing that the children have produced.

In PE this term, we have been focusing on Outdoor Adventure Activities. Within this unit, the children are learning to work effectively as a team. This is such an important skill to master in order to be successful in so many sports, but is much harder than it sounds! Good team work requires excellent communication, trust and problem solving. The children are doing so well to develop these skills and are becoming valuable team players.
Year 4 has had a busy couple of weeks with their assessments! The children have endeavoured so much and have persevered throughout, demonstrating great determination and resilience. They have approached each task with a positive attitude, applying the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout the year. It has been inspiring to witness their hard work and growth. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and look forward to celebrating their achievements together. Well done, Year 4!
As we are approaching the end of the year, for Maths, we are preparing the children to be successful in Y5 by consolidating and stretching their learning to be able to think critically and mathematically when answering multi step word problems.
In DT, we are finalising our designs for our slingshot cars. The children have used the DT cycle of ‘Design, Make and Evaluate’ to ensure the model worked efficiently and met their target brief. We cannot wait to go head to head and race our cars!

The value of Show Courage has been shown so much by children during their swimming lessons on Monday. To witness some children conquering their fears and even stepping into the water has been a massive success especially graduating into the big pool!
Reminder: Y4 Parent Celebration Event - Tuesday 9th July 2:30-3:15 in the main hall. We are so excited to have you come and share this moment with us and your children.
The Browns meet Paddington on a railway station and discover that ordinary things like having a bath or travelling on the underground can soon become quite extraordinary if a small bear is involved! More than 35 million Paddington books have been sold around the world, and the characters have also appeared in popular film and TV series!
This week we completed our Team Reach Day! It was all about relationships and how bodies change during puberty. The children took part in an incredible workshop by LMK that focused on identifying relationships' healthy and unhealthy traits. Make sure you ask them about these during the weekend.

On Tuesday the 16th, the children will be having a celebration picnic for their geography unit in school! This will be a chance for them to celebrate all of their hard work in these lessons. Make sure to quiz children on their knowledge of squatter settlements which they have been learning this half term.
Remember that we are hosting the graduation for Year 5 on Friday 19th from 3:30 to 4:30 in the main hall. We are so excited to have you come and share this moment with us and your children. The ceremony will include a performance from the children, a slideshow of pictures showcasing their journey, and the receiving of the ties that will be a part of their uniform in Year 6. We would love it if you could bring a snack to share to the event.
Please make sure it is clearly labeled with the ingredients that it contains and that it is 100% nut-free.
Social action
For the last two weeks, pupils have been working on a social action project in conjunction with First Give. Across both Team Cherwell and Ouse, pupils have identified an area of need within their local community and have worked in groups to help to address the issue. From bake sales to leaflets and from games to shoe box collections, pupils have been raising money and awareness of the issues closest to their heart. Congratulations to all pupils involved: here are some photographs of their work.

The Year 10 made it through a challenging exam week where they faced full length GCSE papers and exam conditions in our sports hall for the first time. They were resilient in the face of difficulty and showed great maturity during ‘independent study’ sessions that will become a part of their routine in Year 11.
We also had a fantastic time at Tile Barn for the residential. The staff from both Reach and Tile Barn were incredibly complimentary on the enthusiasm, kindness and joy that the Year 10s brought with them. All in all it was a pleasure to spend four days together and a fantastic end to their exams.

Dear Parents,

Achievements and memories:
Safety was a top priority. Before the trip, all students attended a briefing on safety protocols and expected behaviour, plus some basic first aid and equipment handling training.
We’re incredibly proud of how the students came together as a team. They navigated challenging terrains, set up their own campsites, and developed a stronger sense of community and self-reliance.
Thank You:
Thank you for your support in making this trip possible. Your trust and encouragement meant a lot, and it really helped ensure the trip was a success.
The Bronze DofE trip to Tile Barn was a remarkable experience, and we’re already looking forward to more adventures in the future!
